This lesson is part of the curricular unit “Exploring AI in Primary School”, which consists of 7 moments: Moment 1, Moment 2, Moment 3, Moment 4, Moment 5, Moment 6, and Moment 7.
Overview of the curricular unit
Moment 4: Lesson 11
In this lesson, students will explore how to use AI to solve important problems for humanity, such as ocean pollution. In this journey, they will reflect on the ethics of training AI tools.
With the AI activities for the Oceans, students will playfully train real Machine Learning (ML) models, making ethical use of AI.

During the activity, the teacher highlights questions such as:
- Is the amount of data entered sufficient?
- Is it fair to choose fish by shape or color?
At the end, students engage in a class group debate on:
- the importance of AI for the future of Humanity
- the use of AI for good
- data bias in AI training
The goal is for students to understand that:
- AI learns from what humans use to train it and is subject to “error”
- it is necessary for AI to be responsible, fair, and safe
- AI can be used to do good
- AI is important for the future
- AI can help solve humanity’s problems
